Fast descent of the Gorges du Verdon in airboat
The inflatable kayak experience, also known as airboat From mid-June until the beginning of September
This single-person inflatable boat is streamlined like a traditional kayak, giving it the same glide and manoeuvrability on the water. The ease of launch and portability, agile performance, shock absorption, buoyancy and exceptional stability of the’airboat quickly become enjoyable. This water activity gives you a sense of closeness to the rivers and the power of nature. So that you can set off with confidence, your State-certified guide will be by your side throughout the descent, showing you the way and ensuring your safety. This will be your opportunity to experience the unique thrill of descending the Verdon Gorge in an inflatable kayak or airboat, from our base at Aboard Rafting to the Pinède beach, a distance of approximately 8 km and a navigation time of 1.5 hours. Along the Verdon, you will be able to observe this magnificent natural environment. In particular, you will pass through the Barre Saint Jean, which is the most turbulent part of your trip and will refresh you somewhat.
Practising the’airboat on the middle section of the Verdon
Lift your eyes and admire the beautiful nature on offer in the Verdon Gorge, Europe's largest canyon. Your descent of the Verdon by airboat over 8 km promises a real treat for the senses, with physical exertion and wonderful memories guaranteed! You'll have the chance to explore the upper Verdon section of the lake. This includes the pre-gorges of Castellane and the Verdon Canyon, stretching for up to 21 km. This part of the valley is highly valued for practicing Rafting, you Canyoning and of’airboat due to the numerous rapids that follow one another. For example, you find rapids there such as the Barre Saint Jean, the Dégoulinante, the Tourniquet, the Imbut, the Solitaire located between the villages of Allos and Saint André les Alpes.
With its crystal-clear waters and spectacular landscapes, the Verdon Gorge is not too difficult to approach, but there are a few highlights (the Saint Jean rapids, the La d’Egurinante rapids and the Solitaire rapids). Indeed, the speed of the water is high enough for this type of water sport to be exciting.
Spring and early summer are generally an ideal time for whitewater activities as they guarantee sufficient water levels. It is highly recommended to book your Airboat activity in advance to ensure you have an inflatable kayak available. All the necessary equipment for this activity is provided by our Aboard Rafting leisure centre.
Activity flow airboat From Verdon
We await you at our Aboard Rafting base in Castellane at 9:30 am in spring and 9:00 am in summer for the period of July and August. Our specialised guides will welcome you for a briefing about descending the Verdon river. airboat and the progressive conditions of the different rapids you will be tackling with our team. This descent takes place in two stages. The first part goes through an easy Class II rapid (see Rapids ClassificationThen, for the second part, we reach the famous Barre St Jean at the top of this descent. Depending on the route, this rapid can be more or less difficult, but it is also a place to apply what you will have learned in terms of technique and manoeuvrability of the’airboat downstream. After the entire crew has navigated the Barre Saint Jean rapids, we continue our white-water descent to the Pinède beach. This large, calm area at the foot of the Barre Saint Jean rapids will allow the crew to change their clothes and return to the base of our leisure centre by bus.
